Pi Day

14th March 2019

National Pi Day: the most mouthwatering math day of the year!

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.

Pi Day is a way to engage pupils in a fun, timely, and relatable way. Every teacher understands the constant challenge of making subjects and lessons engaging and Pi Day provides a natural hook for math.

This week, Stover School has been celebrating National Pi Day and all years took part in fun activities based around the mathematical symbol and its meanings. From enriching tutor time activities, Pi themed lessons and a variety of delicious pies served for lunch the pupils really enjoyed getting stuck in. For the first time, pupils in the Senior School took part in a House Countdown Competition which involved a combined junior, intermediate and senior team challenge using the number game from the popular TV show.

The winner of the House Countdown competition will be announced in assembly!
