The History of Stover Park – Now Available

This is an invitation for you to place an advance order for the Trust’s latest publication at a discounted rate, and for your name to be added to the list of subscribers in the book, prior to printing.

For many years, the restoration of Stover Park has been an objective for those organisations associated with it. After six years of planning by its principal stakeholders, a £4.6M project was submitted in December 2019 by Devon County Council to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) for grant aid. That application has been successful and NLHF Trustees have awarded £341,000 towards the development phase of the project (2021/22), which is now under way. An application for the second round of NLHF grant aid will be prepared in March 2022 for the delivery phase of the project, which is scheduled to take place in 2022/25.

The history of Stover Park, the families who have owned it, and the impact they have made on the landscape were well researched and informed the NHLF bid on the heritage and significance of this very special estate. That research is now being documented into one single reference book, which will present a chronology of the Stover estate, the village of
Teigngrace and their connections from the Norman conquest (1066) to the present time (2020).

Being published in colour, sized 220mm x 240mm, the book contains over 250 pages with 280 photographs and illustrations, fully referenced and indexed. With a preface by Dr Dianne Long, Chair of The Devon Gardens Trust (2016-2020), the book is expected to be available in January 2021. It will give broad appeal to readers with an interest in the local history of the region and the families who shaped its landscape and economy over the past thousand years.

If this is a subject which interests you, and you would like to order a copy of the book, then please complete and return the form below to the author, at the given address. The cost of a subscription copy will be £16.99 plus £3.00 p. & p.

Discounted copies for subscribers have been made possible by generous donations towards the cost of production by The Devon Gardens Trust and The Claude and Margaret Pike Woodland Trust.
