We offer As and A level qualifications in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Biology A

A Level Specification code: H420

AS Level Specification code: H020

A Level in Biology A allows pupils to develop relevant practical skills alongside essential knowledge and understanding of a range of biological concepts and scientific methods. Biological mathematics and problem-solving skills are integrated into teaching and learning.

The content is in six modules:

Module 1: Development of practical skills in biology

Module 2: Foundations in biology

Module 3: Exchange and transport

Module 4: Biodiversity, evolution and disease

Module 5: Communication, homeostasis and energy

Module 6: Genetics, evolution and ecosystems

AS Level Biology covers modules 1 to 4 only.

Chemistry A

A Level  Specification code: H432

AS Level Specification code: H032

The A Level Chemistry A qualification is a content-led course designed to develop theoretical and practical chemistry skills, knowledge and understanding.

The content is in six modules:

Module 1 – Development of practical skills in chemistry

Module 2 – Foundations in chemistry

Module 3 – Periodic table and energy

Module 4 – Core organic chemistry

Module 5 – Physical chemistry and transition elements

Module 6 – Organic chemistry and analysis

AS Level covers modules 1 to 4 only.

Physics A

A Level Specification code: H556

AS Level Specification code: H156

A Level Physics enables pupils to build on their knowledge of the laws of physics, applying their understanding to solve problems on topics ranging from subatomic particles to the entire universe. They also have the opportunity to develop all the relevant practical skills.

The content is in six modules:

Module 1: Development of practical skills in physics

Module 2: Foundations in physics

Module 3: Forces and motion

Module 4: Electrons, waves and photons

Module 5: Newtonian world and astrophysics

Module 6: Particles and medical physics

AS Level Physics covers modules 1 to 4 only.

In all three A level courses pupils gain practical skills throughout the course. These are assessed in the written examinations and in the practical endorsement which is reported separately on the examination certificate.
