Horse Riding
All pupils at Stover are given the opportunity to take part in, and extend their skills in Horse Riding.
Pupils can choose riding as one of their daily activities as the school sends a minibus to the local Rora Stables in Liverton each day. Here, pupils are put into groups according to their ages and ability, therefore Monday and Friday afternoons are reserved for the Prep school pupils, with the middle of the week classes catering for the Senior pupils. At these sessions the instructors introduce the pupils to aspects of horse and pony care as well as providing tuition in flatwork, show jumping and cross country. These lessons are interspersed with hacks in Dartmoor National Park and picnic rides in the summer term.
Many of our pupils are fortunate enough to have their own horse or pony and both compete and take part in various equestrian activities at both a local and national level, including some notable individual results.
We also encourage pupils with their own horse to represent the school at various compeptions held within the South West region. Recently we have won the Blundells Schools' One Day Event Team competition (September 2007) and the South West Schools' Pairs Showjumping (April 2008).
