FOS October 2007 Newsletter

Hello!  My name is Susie Morris and I am the new Chairman of FOS.  I have two girls at Stover, Lucy (Year 8) and Milly (Year 6) both whom have come all the way up through the School from the Nursery, so I know the School pretty well.  I have been involved with FOS for the last four years, starting out as a volunteer doing the "Wrapping Station" at the Christmas Fair and progressing on to the Committee so I could have a say how the money was spent and now sitting as Chair.

I hope you will all work with me to continue the marvellous job that FOS has done under my predecessor Darren Thompson - a presentation was made to Darren at the AGM to thank him for his great leadership.

We have had a very successful year and have raised nearly £8,500 towards Project Pavilion and we will be presenting a cheque for £843.80 to our nominated charity Children's Hospice South West at a special assembly in the near future - a great achievement and many thanks to all the parents, children and staff who have contributed towards this.  We don't have a nominated charity yet this year so we have asked the School's Charity Co-ordinator, Charlotte Small, to come up with some suggestions, we will make a decision at our next meeting in January and I will let you know in due course.

FOS events are not possible without the generosity (in both time and money) of our parents, staff and pupils and we are always looking for new volunteers and new ideas to move things forward.  I am sorry to say that we have struggled lately to recruit new volunteers and this has lead to the cutting back of some events (no shopping trip to Bath and no Bulbman project this Autumn) so if you would like to pour tea at Harvest Festival, wrap presents at the Christmas Fair (back breaking but great fun!) or if you would like to have a say in how the money is spent or if you have a skill that you think we could use PLEASE make yourself known to one of the Committee or a member of staff where you will be guaranteed a warm welcome.  It is a great way to get to know other parents from all different years, throughout the School.

May I finish by asking that you give our events a try - if you haven't been to one for a while or have never come along - please do - they are great fun.

Thank you.    Susie

Sponsorship and Fund Matching

Friends of Stover is primarily a fund raising charity to benefit all the pupils in the School and therefore we are always looking for sponsorship of events.  If you or your company would like to sponsor a stall at the Christmas Fair (from as little as £20.00) to being a major sponsor at the Ball next June please get in touch - all offers considered.

If your company operates a fund matching scheme - we can tailor a raffle, a stall or a tombola to your Scheme.  This has worked successfully in the past and is a great way of maximising funds raised.

Christmas Fair 2007 Thursday 13th December 2007 from 1pm

We have been given the fantastic opportunity to have this Fair on the last afternoon of School for the WHOLE School to enjoy.  All the usual fun of the fair with Santa's Grotto, Winter Wonderland, games, sweets and cakes galore.

We will, as always, be collecting various items to sell so if you are having a clear out please think of us.  We need, good quality toys, books, dvds, bric a brac, unwanted gifts, wrapping paper, smellies, Christmas decorations and of course lots of volunteers.  Please leave any items in SPS Reception after half term. For the Christmas Fair each year group will be assigned a stall and a rota will be built up of parents to help, this is usually for half an hour so you can have lots of time to spend with your children.

Don't forget Bottle ‘n' Box Mufti Day on Friday 30th November.  Please remember that alcohol should not be sent in with unaccompanied children.

Are you good at face painting?  Or know someone who is - please let us know.  If you have a fantastic idea that was done at a previous School or can think of something we've not done before - please get in touch.

Want a stall in our Christmas Market?  Give us a call - we had everything from Christmas Cards to Jewellery and Scarves to Candles last year.

Christmas Fair Sub Committee:  Susie Morris, Kate Reece, Sue Barlow and Kirsty Hyland and anyone else who would like to get involved!
