Head Girl - Olivia Morton

Deputy Head Girl - Charlotte Fitch

Hello, my name is Charlotte Fitch and I am proud to be Deputy Head Girl at Stover School alongside our Head Girl Olivia Morton.  Having joined Stover Prep School at the end of Year 2, I consider myself one of the original 'Stover Girls!'.  I am currently studying A levels in Biology, Psychology and English Literature, having studied Chemistry at AS level. Next year, I am planning to go on to university to study Forensic Science. As well as Deputy Head Girl, I also hold the prefect positions of Head of Victoria/Courtenay House and Chair of Sixth Form. These positions enable me to interact with my peers, liaise with staff, support the younger years, as well as being a responsible representative of my school.

As Deputy Head Girl, I help to support the rest of the prefect team, and contribute towards decisions about school life. During my year, I hope to develop my confidence, my organisation and communication skills, as well as showing the pupils the responsibility and enjoyment that being Deputy Head Girl involves so in the future they too can aspire to become a prefect.

Although A levels require lots of time and hard work, the whole Sixth Form is still able to be involved in social and sporting events. At the beginning of the term, the Year 13s and new Year 12s had a chance to get to know each other when we went out to the 'Eastern Eye' for a meal, which was both enjoyable and interesting. Other popular activities include the annual Christmas dinner, Chinese New Year and surfing at Bigbury in the summer term; a new experience for many!

In the Sixth Form centre itself, there is always a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with the arrival of new Christmas decorations giving the building a festive feel. Many of the Sixth Formers work closely with the younger school during extra-circular activities such as the school play, sporting teams and the choir. A new element was added to the House Assembly's this term with an 'inter-house' quiz, organised by the sixth form. This gave the Year 12 and 13s a chance to mix with all the years in their house, as well as some healthy competition between the Heads of House!

I am looking forward to my "year in office" and am excited to face any challenges that will present themselves, as well as being involved with a diverse and interesting prefect team.

Speech Day - Charlotte Fitch

rs Moriarty, Mrs Bradley, Governors, Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, I hope you have all enjoyed Speech Day and congratulations to all the students who received prizes today. It is with great pleasure, Mrs Moriarty, that I am able to express my thanks on behalf of Stover School for you joining us here today.

The late 19th Century American inventor and educator George Washington Carver once said that "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of Freedom" and having the opportunity today to be able to listen to someone so respected in the field was both enlightening and inspiring.

I was fascinated by the anecdotes you told us about your past Speech Day experiences, which while amusing, I hope our students can take away from the importance of modesty and graciousness ....particularly when trying to get out of awkward situations! Other points you made concerning how you came about deciding which degree to take, and encouraging your daughter to go over to America was fascinating and will, I hope, inspire our students to broaden their horizons and relish every opportunity that comes their way. Be persistent. Follow your dreams. If there are obstacles in your way, the challenge is to overcome them... even if it is mum who's pushing you!

Finally, I would like to thank you again for joining us here today and for encouraging us to set ourselves high ambitions, for inspiring us to work as hard as we can to reach them and most importantly - how to deliver a humorous speech!

I would now like to present you with a gift to show our appreciation.
