Being a Scholar at Stover

What Does Stover Expect of Its Scholars?

Our Scholars are expected to maintain high academic standards, set a good example for other pupils to follow and display loyalty to the school.  It would be a general expectation that our Scholars complete their Sixth Form education at Stover.

The school reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship in the unlikely event that a pupil's work and effort no longer reach the high standards that Stover expects.

Art

Pupils who have been awarded Art scholarships are expected to show a strong commitment to the subject and to take it as one of their GCSE or A Level subjects as appropriate.  They will be expected to maintain high standards in both attainment and effort, which will be monitored by the Head of Art, as well as provide artwork for display around the school and make a contribution to the artistic life of the school.

Music

Pupils with Music scholarships are expected to make a major contribution to the school's enthusiastic and expanding Music department.  There are a variety of instrumental ensembles and choirs that take place on a weekly basis and music scholars are expected to attend every activity open to them.  Pupils with an advanced instrumental aptitude will be required to help in the younger ensembles to provide support and encouragement lower down the school.  The accent on performance within the department is encouraged by participation in concerts, festivals and master classes both in and out of school.  Pupils are expected to practice on a daily basis.  It is expected that music scholars will reach Grade 4/5 standard for 13+ scholarships and Grade 7/8 standard is expected for Sixth Form scholars.  Scholars will be expected to take GCSE or A Level Music as appropriate and to maintain high standards in both attainment and effort.  Failure to participate fully in the life of the music department will lead to the loss of scholarship.

Sport

Pupils who have been awarded Sports scholarships are expected to show a strong commitment to all aspects of sport at Stover.  They will be expected to attend school clubs, squad practices and play in School and House teams, to show "sporting" behaviour and be good role models for younger pupils.  They will help to organise teams for House matches and generally give wholehearted support to the PE staff.  Sport Scholars should be dressed appropriately when training or taking part in fixtures.  They will be expected to take GCSE or A Level PE as appropriate and to maintain high standards in both attainment and effort.  They will be expected to pursue their sport outside of school at "club" level to improve their performance further.  The Head of PE will monitor sport scholars.
