Boarding Adventures - Autumn Term
Trip to Dartmouth
Last Saturday we went to Dartmouth. The weather was so lovely and everyone was so happy. We enjoyed the steam train journey from Paignton down to Kingswear very much, and then took a boat trip across to Dartmouth. While we were there we had a chance to go shopping, look at the boats, or go for a walk in the park. It will be a lovely memory of my life in England. - Helen Te
Murder Mystery Walking Trail
We went on the murder mystery trail in such wet and windy weather that my paper-work nearly blew away. It was great fun as we had to find the answer to clues in our group of four. The clues were on buildings, benches and monuments and we walked the circuit of 2.5 miles in total. We still had enough time to do some shopping and buy a drink. The best thing about it was finding out who the murderer was. You can win a prize if you enter the correct answer on the website. - Anastasia Korotkova
Cookery
Cookery was really fun as you could have a choice of things. All the ingredients were provided and we were allowed to ice the cakes that we made. One of the girls who lives in Germany, made apple muffins, using apples from the orchard. Some of the others made triple chocolate cookies which are really nice, as they use chocolate spread in the recipe as well as white chocolate chips. After the cookery session we took the cakes to the boarding house and shared them with all our friends. - Paige and Corrina
Aerobics Session
I enjoyed the aerobics session as I find dancing quite fun and exercise can keep you fit. Some of the movements were quite difficult and the steps were hard to remember but I loved the music. Straight after the dance session we walked to the lake to get some fresh air. It was very a very warm afternoon and the lake is so pretty. We walked all around the lake and the only disappointing thing was that the ice cream van wasn't there. I would have liked to have a sandwich in the picnic area. I liked the reflection in the water and the dragonflies and ducks. We only saw one swan there. We stayed a while in the open air class room and enjoyed the sunshine. I was very tired on the walk back. - Sarah Chan
Plymouth and the Circus
I really enjoy the trip to Plymouth it. The place was really nice and there were a lot of shops, so we had a good time in it. Some of the girls went swimming after they had done a little shopping. Some of us didn't want to go swimming so we carried on looking around all of the shops. Today we went to the circus. It was funny and we all really enjoyed it. I like to go out on Sundays because if not they can sometimes seem too long. This weekend was, in my opnion, the best of all, but I also enjoyed Dartmouth a lot. - Monica Quintana
Boarders' Horse-riding trip
On Saturday 20th September a few boarders and myself piled into a minibus and set off towards the stables at Babeny. Once we got there we had to fill in forms about our height, age and riding ability so that the people at the stables could decide what horse we would ride. They separated us into two groups and my group got to go first. My horse was called Rosie, and although I was a bit big for her she was quite fast and nice to ride.
When everyone was ready the two women from the stables got on their horses and led us up a slope which went out onto the moor. Once we were all through a gate and in an organised line the older lady asked us who could canter. Six of us put our hands up, so we had to wait whilst the others walked up a hill and out of sight so that we could canter to catch them up.
During the hour-long ride we followed a really scenic path through streams, up and down hills and past groups of wild, Dartmoor ponies. We rode round in a big circle back to the stables and I really enjoyed myself. There people were friendly and made sure we were safe. Waiting for the second group who rode after us was a little boring, but when it had finished everyone seemed to have had a really nice time. I will definitely go again, and recommend it to anyone who likes the countryside and horses. - Emily Springett
Stover's Got Talent
Stover's Got Talent was held today. There were three groups of performers showing their talents in Chamber Hall and the audience enjoyed it very much, especially the Jam by Harm and Eliise.
Harmony Marinina and Eliise Peelo were the first group up, performing ‘Boarders' Jam'. Their act made everybody smile and they even got the audience to join in the rap aswell. After that, Gigi's talent was to solve her Rubik's cube in front of all the boarders and she finished it in about a minute. Last, but by no means the least, there was an instrumental ensemble by three junior boarders Venus, Sarah and Helen.
Once the three acts were over, Mrs Fletcher presented chocolate to all those who took part and then Harmony and Eliise did an encore to end the show. - Angela Wong
Bowling in Torquay
Last Saturday we went to Torquay. First we all went shopping and then afterwards we had a choice of either going bowling or spending more money in the local shops. I chose bowling, because I thought it sounded like a good way to spend our time. To be honest I was a bit surprised when I saw the bowling lanes, because in Poland, the country that I am from, they look different. There are no bumpers that stop the ball falling into the gutters. Due to the bumpers playing was much easier, but also (in my opinion) less interesting, because it's always funny when the ball falls down into one of the gutters and it's also harder to gain points. I think that's the reason why I unfortunately didn't win, but I really enjoyed our trip to Torquay. - Ola Pielska
Eden Project
Yesterday, we went to the Eden Project, which is the home of the world's largest greenhouse. I think this is a really interesting place with beautiful scenery. The complex comprises a number of domes that house plant species from around the world. Some of the plants I had never seen or heard of before. I saw a big Christmas tree with many beautiful decorations on it and I took some photos with my friends.
After that we went ice skating. Different coloured lights lit up the whole ice rink. This ambience was very good and there was even some snow that fell on the ice rink. It looked really beautiful. There were places for buying souvenirs. Some of these were very special and I wanted to buy them, but they were very expensive.
I quite enjoyed this trip - Erina Tsang
The Clothes Show Live
Waking up at five in the morning is not a good start to a day, but it's what you have to do if you want to be ready to leave for the Clothes Show at six. So, after a rushed hour of applying make-up, straightening or curling our hair and picking out an outfit, we were ready to leave. It took about four hours to get to Birmingham and by the time we were there, we were buzzing with excitement. First up, a quick hour of shopping, which included looking out for all the best make-up and clothes deals. Then the part that we had all been waiting for, the fashion show! To our surprise the show was hosted by Dave Berry and three actors from Hollyoaks, and Alisha Dixon came in and sung her new song "Boy Does Nothing"! The show consisted of a whole hour of cat walk models strutting their stuff and professional dancers. The outfits were eccentric and scenery was breath taking, but what many of us liked most of all were the very good looking, muscular male models! It was over in what felt like five minutes and left us to enjoy the next four hours shopping! We all bought lots of good quality make-up on fantastic deals and clothes that were going for next to nothing. The day was over too quickly and before we knew it we had leave for the long journey back to school. - Siân Wood
